Description

The LMF Standalone Ballistics Calculator is an implementation of the Siacci flat-fire trajectory and G7 drag function for the Microsoft Excel and OpenOffice/LibreOffice spread sheet applications. The Siacci method is sufficiently accurate for all sporting arms. Included in the calculator is a sheet showing validation against Berger-Litz, Bison Ballistics, JBM Ballistics, Strelok and Hornady online calculators.

The advantage of a standalone calculator is that it can be run on a desktop PC, laptop, tablet or phone without internet connection. This calculator is free to use and modify. The individual sheets are locked and cells are protected to prevent accidental deletion of formulas however no password is required. There are also hidden rows and columns that can be unhidden after sheets are unlocked. The calculator does not contain macros.

The calculator gives a single range fire solution as well as a "range card" that can be configured by distance and increment. Running the calculator does not require detailed spreadsheet knowledge. It is idiot proof.

Data Entry and Single Range Fire Solution

The figure below shows the "Input" sheet for data entry and single range fire solution. Air density is calculated using station pressure or altitude. Data entry is limited to imperial units. The BC must be based on the G7 drag function. Colored cells are for data input. White cells are data output.

Range Card

The figure below shows the "RC" sheet for displaying the range card. The "Range" cell in the "Input" sheet controls the range card maximum range. The "Increment" cell sets the calculation interval. The "Count" cell shows the number of entries and the limit is 200. Data validation prevents entering a non integer in "Range" and "Increment" and exceeding the 200 entry limit. If you wish to print the range card it is up to you to set the print range and scaling.

Hidden Sheets

There are two hidden sheets that contain intermediate calculations. Sheet "ST" contains the numerically integrated Siacci table and G7 drag function. The Siacci table is computed using the method given in "Modern Exterior Ballistics" by McCoy. Sheet "DA" contains the density altitude calculations and includes formula references.
